The southern region of Singapore houses 8 hawker centres distributed across Commonwealth, Bukit Merah, Mei Chin Road and Tanglin Halt Road. Most notably, it is home to one of Singapore's most famous food centres: Alexandra Village Food Centre. Despite the modest number of hawker centres in the region, some hawkers have made a name for themselves locally and even internationally. Some notable hawkers include the Michelin Bib Gourmand-listed Zhen Shan Mei Depot Road Claypot Laksa from Alexandra Village Food Centre, Yusoff Haji Jalal Satay from Pasir Panjang Food Centre and the veteran Henry's Chicken Rice (operating for over 20 years!) from Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre.
